The spy who came in from the cold - John le Carré - 1963

One of my favourite books (certainly spy novels) of all time. It takes you back to the Cold War era without being overly descriptive or obsessive over details. Perhaps this is partly because at the time of writing it was discussing a contemporary subject?

It captivates your imagination, reads fluently, and keeps you hooked regardless of whether the scene is one of travelling, interrogation or planning. The English is exactly what I like too: precise yet not overly formal or technical.

It still leaves me with questions regarding who at the top of "the Circus" knew what and when.
